How to use it

  1. Set the starting tempo with the + and − buttons, by typing a number, or by tapping along.

  2. Choose a time signature and, if you like, a subdivision.

  3. Press Start. A 3-2-1 count-in plays before the first beat.

Make the tempo change by itself

Pratnome can raise or lower the tempo automatically after a number of bars — for example +10 BPM every four bars. That is what makes it more than a plain metronome.

Time signatures, subdivisions and accents

Choose 2/4, 3/4, 4/4, 6/8, 9/8, 12/8 or a custom signature. Divide each beat into eighths, triplets or sixteenths, add swing to eighths and sixteenths, and set every beat to strong, normal, soft or mute.

Practicing with a metronome

Start slower than you think

Pick a tempo where you can play the passage cleanly every time, and only then move up.

Raise the tempo in small steps

Small, regular increases build speed without letting mistakes creep in. Five to ten BPM at a time is a common choice.

Listen between the clicks

The aim is to land with the pulse, not on top of it. Subdivisions help you hear where the in-between notes fall.

Use silence to test your time

Drop the click for a few bars and see whether you are still together with it when it returns.
